Should age discrimination be illegal when it comes to jobs?

Honestly I think the limit should be changed from 16 to 13.
Kids and teens, me included, need to get our butts away from FaceBook, MySpace, YouTube, Ipods, computers and TVs. There's a reason why we are the laziest generation. Technology. There are limitations to everything and those should most definately be applied to some technology. This is not the topic at hand so therefore I will get back on track.
Jobs are a good way to make us more mature, disciplined, give us better time management skills as well as people skills.
Accompanying that, there is a pride in saying: 'I earned my own money.' it gives a sense of independance and accomplishment. This also prepares us for the real world, where Mommy and Daddy won't always be there with their cash and Facebook doesn't solve anything.
Jobs hone a person, making them more responsible and able to commitment. Also, for a better, larger job, showing that you were mature enough at that age to be working shows a serious, strong, responsible character. It makes a person more confident in themselves too.
Overall, I think that jobs should be open for all. I can also say, there a lot of very mature, dedicated people I know, including the author of this post, who are 13-15. I can also claim to knowing MANY 16 year olds who are not serious, care free reckless, immature people. If they can get jobs, than we should be able to as well.
I say 13 as an age limit because:
-this gives us better time management skills in high school, training us for other post-secondary education where time management is extremely important. -we get working experience before high-school -our brains are better developed and generally more knowing then those of younger children as well as our physical and social abilities - younger children are generally more reckless and carefree. They haven't had a clue or taste of the real world - we are in our teens and have already learned about business and interviews through presentations and high school visits is grade 8
My conclusion: Children age 13 and higher should be allowed to get jobs, children under 18 with their parents consent. Risky or physically testig jobs should be allowed after age of 16 though with parents consent till legal adulthood.
